She is responsible for the formation of the Baltimore Sun Choir. This was the first choir that existed in the 180-year history of the Baltimore Sun. Also, she is one of the founding members of the R&B group “En-Unique.” In 1999, her vocal abilities along with her “style” landed her a spot with Baltimore’s own Bleulights.
During this musical journey with the Lights, she has shared the stage with The Flamingos, the Legendary Orioles, the late Pookie Hudson & The Spaniels, Skip Mahoney & the Casual and Kim Waters to name a few. She has worked with several outstanding musicians: the late Cory Brooks, Clayton McClendon, Jackie Blake, Pinky Harris, Paul Johns, Dennis Fisher and Kevin Walker. Performing live on Maryland Public Television - Channel 22 and WMAR - Channel 2 added to her musical experiences and memories.
In 2001, she won second place in the Great Blacks in Wax Museum’s Masquerade Ball with her rendition of "Good Morning Heartache." In February 2006, Ya’Von became the featured vocalist of the Rob Reason Jazz Group. On December 4, 2007, she was showcased and the featured vocalist during “The Ladies of Jazz” series at Cibo’s Bar & Grill, Owings Mills, Md.
Her musical genres include but are not limited to Jazz, Doo-Wop, R&B, Gospel, Harmony, and Background. That harmonious voice gave the Bleulights a new flavor during the recording of several CDs: (Gumption Revue 2000 Love is The Thing! & Romance Returns with the Bleulights).
God continues to set the universe in motion allowing Ya’Von’s musical journey to continue in progression. Once again, she is the featured vocalist and one of the founding members of the musical group “N-Session.” They call her the glue of the Bleulights and she holds her own with The Rob Reason Jazz Group.
Ya’Von is an excellent vocalist and entertainer. She is very tenacious and a beautiful sight to see as she woos the crowd with wonderful stage presence and energy... Definitely a force to be reckoned with…
